The French politician was arrested Saturday in New York after a waitress at the hotel I was staying accused him of sexually assaulting her.
The woman, 32, had managed to escape the room, causing the precipitate flight of Strauss-Kahn. Former Minister of Economy and Finance was held at New York JFK Airport on a flight to Paris, minutes before it took off.
The head of the IMF is at a police station in Harlem. It is not the first time is involved in a scandal of a sexual nature. In 2008, publicly accepted having committed "an error of assessment" for having an extramarital affair.
His arrest is bad news for the French Socialist Party. Although not yet submitted its candidacy, polls placed him as the best chance of defeating the left to right Nicolas Sarkozy in the presidential elections of 2012.
